Rías Baixas Albariño Announces 2007 Recipe Contest Winners
Imaginative cooks from across the US win with their favorite recipes
February 1, 2008
Amateur chefs across the country recently uncovered a secret that top chefs and sommeliers have long known—Rías Baixas Albariño wines create a perfect match for foods from around the world.
For its second Annual Recipe Contest, Rías Baixas invited cooks across the country to create an original dish that pairs well with this versatile, crisp white wine from Spain. Judging was a challenge given the number of mouth-watering recipes received, but the winners can now be revealed!
Garnering the Grand Prize is Penny Malcolm of Americus, Georgia for her Fennel, Fig and Fontina Appetizer Pizza. Upon learning that she won a Williams-Sonoma gift certificate for $1,000 and a case of Rías Baixas Albariño wine, Penny declared, “I have never won anything like this before—it was such a nice surprise to win during the holiday season!” Two runners-up (see below) each received a case of Rías Baixas Albariño wines, valued at $250. The winning recipes, delicious on their own, pair wonderfully with Albariño’s refreshing acidity and fruity characteristics. Entries were judged based on taste, creativity, practicality, and of course, pairing with Rías Baixas Albariño.
Runners Up- Southern Fried Tandoori Chicken by Cecilia Firling of Winter Park, Florida
- Savory Prosciutto-Gruyere Bread Pudding by Julia Hession of Las Vegas, Nevada.

About Rías Baixas Albariño
Formed in 1988, the Rías Baixas DO is the leading Denomination of Origin in the Galician region of northwestern Spain. The DO was formally established in 1988 and owes much of its acclaim to the white Albariño grape, elevated by many in Spain to cult status, a trend that is now spreading to US shores.
